Glue mortice with PVA and fit onto the string, then fit the dowels.
To properly install a new staircase, check that the newel post is square by using a roofing square and prop into the correct position.
Slide tread into the pre-routed housings in the string and post. Glue wedges and knock in until tight.
To contnue installing your staircase, fix a screw through the winder tread into the post.
Fit loose string, locating with pre fitted dowels. Ensure strings are square.
Fix string in position by screwing through the mitre joint.
Continue to fit all remaining treads in order to properly install your staircase.
Ensure all wedge housings are filled with wedges and all treads are screwed to the newel post.
Glue all surfaces with PVA where the riser will touch the treads, strings and newel posts.
Fit the riser and screw to the back edge of the tread.
Fit wedges where possible. If a wedge cannot be fitted screw the riser to the post or string.
Fix glue blocks to the top and bottom edge of the riser, ensure all contact surfaces are glued with PVA.
If you have not completed all these steps do not continue to install the new staircase.
